Can I use the Fission Power Skimmer outside of the sump?
The Fission Power Skimmer can be used as a hang-on model with the main aquarium, however the higher water level in the aquarium may cause more back pressure and cause the water level in the skimmer to be higher than as a sump model. Using the sponge attachment on the outlet is not recommended if using the skimmer hanging on the aquarium-the filter sock is recommended for this type of application.

How do I adjust the Fission Power Skimmer to get the foam quality I want?
The water height inside the skimmer will determine the foam quality produced by the skimmer. Using the blue valve on the outlet, slowly turn the valve so that the water level is mid way up the funnel portion leading into the collection cup. From there, small adjustments can be made in either direction for your preferred foam quality. It is best to wait 24 hours after adjusting the skimmer before making further adjustments.

Microbubbles are escaping from the Fission Power skimmer-am I doing something wrong?
On a new tank or a tank that previously didn't have a protein skimmer on it, microbubbles can escape from the protein skimmer. This may also happen after certain additives are used in the aquarium. Please check out the troubleshooting section of the Fission skimmers for information on why microbubbles are escaping from the protein skimmer.

My Fission Power Skimmer is not producing any foam. What is the problem?
There can be many reasons why foam will not collect inside the skimmer. The protein skimmer pump is not injecting air or water into the protein skimmer, the salinity of the tank is too low, the biological load may not be enough to generate waste, or the water level is not high enough for foam to collect into the collection cup. Foam can also be reduced by oily foods or when placing your hands in the aquarium.

The pump attached to the skimmer is quite loud-is that normal?
Due to the tremendous amount of air intake there is a "sucking" noise that can be audible.

The pump is making a grinding or chattering sound-is that normal?
There could be debris inside of the impeller chamber of the pump or there is a problem with the impeller. Please remove the pump and remove the impeller portion to claean and check the impeller and its shaft for damage.

The water level rises too high in the Power Skimmer with the bubble trap and filter sock attached. Why is that?
The combination of the two will casue back pressure inside the skimmer, raising the water level. We recommend using only the filter socker for optimal bubble removal and to prevent back pressure.

What is the purpose of the Paddle Wheel Impeller?
The Paddle Wheel impeller combines the high flow performance of standard impellers with the chopping effect of needle-type impellers, creating an extremely fine froth of microbubbles inside the skimmer.
