Aquascaping a Shrimp Tank with Molded Decor Stones
When selecting aquascaping décor for your freshwater shrimp, a little pre-planning and creativity can really make a difference. Transform your aquascape into a shrimp haven with our molded Seiryu Stones and Dragonstone rock collections. Here are 5 reasons our molded decor stones work so well with freshwater shrimp – and some aquascaping tips on how to use each in your tank.
#1 – EXCELLENT FOR BABY SHRIMP
CREATE A NURSERY
Molded from actual hand-selected stones, our decor rocks feature a hollow cavity and numerous small holes, allowing them to fill with water and sink for placement. These holes are the perfect size for baby shrimp and smaller adult shrimp to fit into, providing an ideal shelter and sanctuary. Watching shrimp march out one by one from your rocks during feeding time is a sight you’ll love every morning and evening.
#2 – PROVIDE PROTECTION & SHELTER
MAKE A MAZE
The deep crevices and detailed texture in our molded stones not only provides an ideal surface for shrimp to climb and crawl on, it’s also perfect for providing protection against predation. While most smaller aquarium fish won’t bother larger shrimp – baby shrimp are always vulnerable. The deep crevices and tiny caves are the perfect quick shelter and safe spot for smaller shrimp when fish are on the prowl.
#3 – DETAILED SURFACE TEXTURE
CULTIVATE A GARDEN
Freshwater shrimp are very active and almost always doing one thing – eating! They will constantly feed on algae and beneficial microbes growing on rocks – or crawl around in search of prepared foods. The rough texture molded on our stones provides an ideal surface for growing microalgae and other plants (especially java-type mosses and plants.) In addition, the internal surface is perfect for biofilm microbes and essential bacteria, providing a valuable food source rich in beneficial proteins and amino acids, and enzymes.
#4 – LIGHTWEIGHT & SAFE
EASY TO AQUASCAPE
Unlike natural stone, our molded stones are lightweight and easy to position, angle and adjust to create a stunning aquascape. They also won’t scratch (or break) glass and won’t fall apart or break into smaller pieces over time. They’re also completely non-toxic and will not alter pH or your water chemistry.
#5 – LESS DISPLACEMENT
MORE WATER VOLUME
The unique hollow design of our medium/large and XL stones allow them to fill with water (versus displace it), providing a larger total volume of water in your aquarium. A total water volume makes balancing water chemistry easier, making your aquarium more stable and cleaner overall.
We’re big advocates of using both our Seiryu Stones and Dragonstone in planted or shrimp-themed tanks. Here are a few tips/comparisons we would recommend when aquascaping for shrimps using our decor stones.
